Assuming that expression to be some sort of colloquialism, could you explain what it means? I assume it has something to do with alcohol, because of new year's and all.

Sip - Down a shot of tequila
Suck - Suck on a wedge of lemon or lime.
Over half a bottle of tequila was drunk this way.
